Alice Archer is a shy and plain single twenty-eight year old woman, who is out shined by her over confident sister Stella. Who treats poor dormouse Alice like a doormat, always running Alice down. When the chance comes for Alice who has never done anything adventures in her whole life to spend a week on the Greek island of Kethos with Stella, she puts it out of her mind how difficult her sister could be with her demanding ways and instead looks forward to the chance to do something different and to spending some time by the sea and in the sun.

While on holiday Alice meets handsome gardener Milo who notices Alice straight away, in fact Alice starts to notice that since she has arrived on the island normally invisible to men Alice seems to have become most desirable to men, turning heads wherever she goes. Alice had always wondered what it felt like to be beautiful and now on this small island it would seem her dream had come true.

Alice and Milo get close, but is it something more than a holiday romance? And once the holiday is over will the spell be broken?

I am a huge fan of Victoria Connelly's books, they never disappoint and are the sort of books you can just get lost in. Pure escapism. I loved travelling to Greece in the book and reading Alice and Milo's story, picturing all the scenic and beautiful pictures views and places on the small island of Kethos, creating the perfect setting for this wonderfully warm romance novel.

Now this is what I call a true romantic comedy! Victoria did it again and brought us a magical love story and I wouldn't be surprised if one day this book is made into a movie. While reading I felt like I was in Greece myself. I felt the sunshine, the Greek atmosphere and the romance.
And what a romance it was! Alice and Milo are perfect charachters and truly lovable. Even the bitchy sister was great... I loved to hate her ;-)
I finished this book in 1 day and read until 1.30 am, I just couldn't put it down.

The Green Mile: The Screenplay reveals Darabont's deft script style despite nary a character description. The adaptation must be one of the most pure ever written; nearly every character and major scene from the novel is represented in the screenplay, often with verbatim dialogue. Both Darabont and King contribute introductions, illustrating the warm friendship between the two, and detailed film credits, drawings of two storyboarded sequences, and 20 black-and-white photos enrich the script. For those interested in witnessing how a movie changes from screenplay to final product, the shooting script version of The Shawshank Redemption makes for a far more intriguing read--and Darabont's post-production essay on the metamorphosis is fascinating. --Doug Thomas

With "The Green Mile: The Screenplay", writer-director Frank Darabont provides would-be screenwriters with an unprecedented look at how a perfect screen adaptation is written. Stephen King, author of the novel on which the film is based, has called Darabont's screenplay "hands-down, the best film adaptation I've ever read." Tom Hanks, the film's star, said of the screenplay, "It's that rarest thing, that thing you're always looking for, this piece of work that shows up on your desk, ready to shoot, and you look at it and say, 'Wow! We just have to show up and make this thing!'" In most situations, directors come to actors hat in hand, begging actors to work on a film. With "The Green Mile", Darabont had actors lining up to work in the film. Even actors of the stature of Gary Sinise were willing to take virtual cameos to appear in the film. The book contains Darabont's final shooting script, which even in that form, contains minor differences from the finished film. It also features introductions by Stephen King and Darabont, as well as a selection of stills and storyboards which give readers added insight into the production of what is easily this year's best film. Although lacking the in-depth analysis of changes in the screenplay which were present in Darabont's last book, "The Shawshank Redemption: The Shooting Script", this book is well worth reading, and, in copanionship with the forthcoming "The Making of 'The Green Mile'", will give readers a guided tour of the production of a modern film classic.

Frank Darabont found himself in an enviable position with his screenplay adapting Stephen King's "The Green Mile" to the screen; instead of going hat-in-hand to stars and begging them to appear in his film, he had major Hollywood talent lining up around the block, asking to BE in the film! Anyone wishing to know why can read his screenplay, published by Simon & Schuster and featuring an introduction by Stephen King, who has labeled it the best adaptation of his or anyone's work ever.
Darabont skillfuly adapts King's novel to the screen.; not a slavish adaptation, this screenplay seeks instead to convey the spirit of King's novel in cinematic terms. For example, instead of having prison guard Paul Edgecomb go out and investigate the murders of the two dead girls for which his prisoner, John Coffey, has been condemned, he finds out by a transfer of information osmoticqally from Coffey. This serves the twofold purpose of shortening the film's running time (the finished film is over three hours in length), and also works much better cinematically, conveying the needed information in four minutes instead of twenty or so. The chance to read a Darabont screenplay is one aspiring screenwriters should take. I was privileged to work with Frank Darabont on "The Green Mile". It is an experience I will never forget, and I cannot recommend this book, or the film to which it gave rise, enough.

Only purchases for a College Course

I would never have purchased or read this book if it had not been required for a college course. I doubt I will use this book for any references later down the road. I found it repetitive and just plain boring. It offered little to no tables, graphs, charts or images to enhance the learning experience.

All the slanderous reviews are just that.............SLANDEROUS! I just read this book and it is AWESOME!!!! The characters pull you in and you fall in love with Jameson and Sway from the first chapter. I found myself laughing out loud and relating to all the sarcasm! The way they talked to each other was so down to earth! The racing is another relatable factor as I have been around racing for 32 years. It is well written and doesn't leave you wondering about anything as it is ALL covered start to finish! Aside from being hilariously funny I shed a few tears as well. I was unable to put the book down. As for the plagiarism accusation, where's the proof? Too many books I've read have similar stories and it doesn't mean they are plagiarized! This story is too detailed and researched to have been stolen. It's a shame people are allowed to make these accusations and try to ruin someone's name and career, especially someone who actually HAS a career!!!!! I for one will continue to support and read this author!

About the Author
Peter Stiling is a professor of biology at the University of South Florida at Tampa. �He has taught classes in ecology, environmental science, and community ecology, and in 1995 he received a teaching award in recognition of classroom excellence in these areas. �Dr. Stiling obtained his Ph.D. from University College, Cardiff, Wales, and completed postdoctoral research at Florida State University. �

Linda Graham is Professor of Botany and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. �She received her Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has taught a nonmajors plant biology course each year for more than 20 years. �She also teaches courses on the biology of algae and bryophytes, contributes to an introductory biology course for majors, and has taught marine botany on a remote tropical island.�

Eric P. Widmaier received his Ph.D. in 1984 in Endocrinology from the University of California at San Francisco. �His postdoctoral training was in endocrinology and physiology at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology, and The Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA. �He is currently Professor of Biology at Boston University.

Rob Brooker (Ph.D., Yale University) received his B.A. in biology at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, in 1978. At Harvard, he studied lactose permease, the product of the lacY gene of the lac operon. He continues working on transporters at the University of Minnesota, where he is a Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and has an active research laboratory. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Brooker teaches undergraduate courses in biology, genetics, and cell biology. In addition to many other publications, he has written two undergraduate genetics texts published by McGraw-Hill: Genetics: Analysis & Principles, 4th edition, copyright 2012, and Concepts of Genetics, copyright 2012.

About the Author
Dr. David E. McNabb, Professor Emeritus at Pacific Lutheran University, has taught at Oregon State University, the Stockholm School of Economics Riga, the American University of Bulgaria, Evergreen State College, the University of Maryland-UC (Europe), and the University of Washington Tacoma. He is an adjunct professor at Olympic College and a recent member of a consultant group on aspects of nonsampling errors in surveys for an agency of the federal government. He earned his PhD at Oregon State University, his MA at the University of Washington, his BA at California State University, Fullerton. Dr. McNabb has served as director of communications for a caucus of the Washington House of Representatives and as director of economic development for the city of Fullerton, California. He has authored eight books and nearly one hundred articles and conference papers.
