Captured by a giant!

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants - rather than the BFG - she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

The BFG was a WOW!
By Paul Bakos
I am a ten-year old girl and I thought The BFG was a great book. I loved how some of the chapters made me laugh out loud. It was a very creative book and I always looked forward to reading it. I've read many books and The BFG was definitely one of my favorites. I decided to read The BFG because I saw an advertisement on TV for the movie. I'm glad I did! I would definitely -and no question about it- recommend it to a friend!

A classic that is still very modern
By M. T. Crenshaw
Matilda is a modern tale that has many elements of the old folk European stories, with angelical vs evil people who you immediately love and hate, and an air of defiance of the adult world that hooks up children. What separates Matilda from old fairy tales is that, despite the character being a female heroine, the story doesn't want to turn her into a princess, into a girlfriend, or into a male character's attachment. Matilda is brilliant because she is an individual and knows what she wants.

The book speaks about the importance of family values and being brought up properly, and about the the importance of your willpower and education to overcome any struggle and become your best self. Also, you get in life whatever your intention and willpower put to it.

The book reads effortlessly and fast, and it is truly enjoyable. A classic of children literature, and very important to reinforce positive female roles in a world that wants to turn little girls into little empty dolls.

I like Quentin Blake's illustrations style but they don't resonate with me with regards to Matilda, perhaps because I imagine Matilda very different from the character we find drawn in the book. This is a personal preference of course.

A big applause for Roald Dahl and Matilda!
By Hyped Reviewer
The book Matilda was published in 1988 before the author, Roald Dahl's death in 1990. It is about a little girl named Matilda who had mean parents. The girl was amazing, however, as she learned to read and write at the age ONE AND A HALF! She loved books, and every day when her father went to fix cars (not technically) and her mother left for Bingo, she would go to the public library to read books. At first, she read children's books. But then, she read all of them and started on adult books like the ones by Charles Dickens. She went into a school, and she had a teacher named Miss Honey and a perfectly vicious headmistress named the Trunchbull. Later she finds out The Trunchbull was Miss Honey's Guardian and aunt! She uses her brainpower ( literally a sort of force) to chase the mean Trunchbull out and help Miss Honey. Then, RIGHT after she helps Miss Honey, Their parents leave for Spain, because Matilda's father was in hot persuit from the cops for tricking people and pretending to fix other people's cars for money. However, Matilda convinces her parents to give permission to stay with Miss Honey. And everyone became happy.
I love this book, because it's really funny. Also, I think the plot is very smoothly planned and natural, so I give this book a five star and a big hand.
